Joe Ryan was named an All-Star for the first time in his career. He posted a 3.42 ERA in 171 innings and struck out 194 batters. Ryan is also controllable through the 2027 season, which makes his trade value even higher, because Boston would be able to use him for two seasons before deciding on committing to him for the future.

Red Sox starter declines mutual option to become free agent; club can extend qualifying offer
Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito has declined his end of a $19 mutual option and is now a free agent, a source confirmed Monday. The decision comes as no surprise. Mutual options, which need to be exercised by both sides, are usually mechanisms that allow teams to manipulate CBT (competitive balance tax) numbers and are almost never picked up.
While there are likely to be higher-profile losses off the Red Sox roster — most notably third baseman Alex Bregman who reportedly informed the team Monday that he will opt out of his contract and become a free agent for the second straight year— the Red Sox are absorbing other losses of important, if less attention-grabbing, players.
